BLACKBERRY PREPARES FOR A POTENTIAL FOREIGN TAKEOVER

According to Bloomberg, the management of BlackBerry has scheduled a meeting with the Canadian government and lawyers to prepare an outdoor recovery group. This indicates that the North American company would be in the process of being acquired by a foreign group, or at least seriously consider.

BlackBerry, once the great Canadian pride, is preparing to sell abroad. It is in any case suggests that the information revealed by Bloomberg, indicating a handshake brand with lawyers and Canadian leaders. According to federal records, management is preparing to discuss the Canadian Law (The Investment Canada Act) governing the bids of firms by the local foreign investor. According to this law, any foreign takeover operation in excess of 344 million Canadian dollars (332 million U.S. Dollars) to be examined by the government. It will therefore be to find good arguments to show that the company would be better to hand a foreign buyer.

Among the candidates, we find that the Chinese manufacturer Lenovo had already mentioned BlackBerry as a potential investment at the beginning of the year. However, such an acquisition would be some security issues since the brand servers provides the Canadian and U.S. governments. So it would require a more thorough examination of the conditions of sale by Canadian political leaders. Microsoft had also been tipped to this purchase, and it remains a credible hypothesis despite the recent acquisition of Nokia , since the acquisition of the two brands would give him greater clout against the giant Android. Furthermore, the purchase of BlackBerry by the Korean Samsung can not be either totally improbable. The constructor looks indeed increasingly on issues of safety with its offer of KNOX terminals and could be interested in some brand patents traditionally oriented professional use. Finally, BlackBerry Messenger has probably more potential in some emerging markets .
According to Bloomberg sources always, this contact happens when BlackBerry was in discussion with Fairfax Holdings, a Canadian pension fund, which is also the largest shareholder of the manufacturer. Fairfax would be already in discussion with managers Canadian pension funds to support a possible takeover. But after the programming of these meetings suggest an attempt to sell abroad, the outcome of these negotiations is more uncertain than ever.
